Staff Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in working with NFTY in Israel. We are now accepting applications for Summer 2012! We are always looking for energetic, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our summer NFTY in Israel staff teams. Spending the summer on one of our staff teams is both a rewarding and demanding experience. The program requires staff that are responsible, flexible and patient. By the end of your day, you will have the opportunity to witness the fruits of your labor- don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity!

Who are our staff and what are their responsibilities?
We have between 40-45 high school students in each of our bus groups with 4 staff members, including one senior Group Leader, two madrichim (counselors), and a NFTY trained tour guide educator. The leaders live and travel with the group for the entire trip, with 2 or 3 days off during the entire period. The leaders are responsible for the health, safety, and learning experiences of the group - 24 hours a day. While tour guide educators plan the daily itinerary, all staff prepare and help implement supplementary educational and Jewish experiential programming during the summer. As a staff member, you are not merely a chaperone!

We hire applicants based on the number of high school students enrolled in our programs. Therefore, you can expect to hear from us during March indicating the status of your application. We will commit ourselves to several staff members at that time, and indicate to a select number of applicants that they are waitlisted" and are our first choices to hire as students register and additional groups are formed. Applicants on the waiting list will hear from us by early May.

What are the staff roles and how does staff work together?
Every NFTY in Israel group consists of 4 staff members for approximately 40 participants. Each group fills one bus. Every two to four groups (about 80 to 160 participants) comprise a unit. Each unit has a Rakaz (Unit Head) who supervises all activities and is on site and available to all groups in his or her unit. Each unit travels on the same itinerary, usually stays in the same base or hotel, and participates in all unit, as well as individual group activities.

NFTY in Israel has three types of staff positions open to North Americans: Rosh Kvutzah (Group Leader), Madrich (Counselor), and Rosh T'fillah (Songleader & Religious Guide). You can also to apply to be a madrich with the additional responsibility of coordinating Communications and Social Media for the group (Rosh Tikshoret).
